Milton
E. Lopes, PhD is the President of
Strategic Management Associates, Inc.
He is also a Professor at the Fielding Graduate
Institute, School
of Human
and Organization Development, in
Santa Barbara, California.
In addition he is an Associate Professor (Adjunct)
in the School
of Public
and International Affairs, the
University of Georgia
in Athens,
Georgia.
His teaching areas include organization studies,
systems theory, management and leadership, community
development, and public policy.
Dr Lopes has more than
thirty years of academic, government, and
corporate experience.
He has taught in colleges and
universities in
Texas,
Maryland,
Virginia,
Ukraine,
the
Republic
of
Georgia,
and the Peoples’ Republic of China. He has been involved in
international, national and regional
community and economic development, small
business management training and technical
assistance. He has
been a senior marketing manager with a large
blue chip firm, and a commercial lending and
trust officer with a major Southwest bank.
He has extensive sales, investment
and financial planning experience with a
major Wall Street firm, a
New York
based life insurance company and a financial
advisory firm located in
Dallas,
Texas.
As a consultant,
Dr. Lopes has worked with a number of
closely held businesses, federal and
municipal agencies, non-profit organizations
and other entities in the areas of
organizational development, strategy
planning, policy analysis, and ethics. He is affiliated with a number of
professional associations among which are
the American Society for Public
Administration, the Association for Public
Policy and Management, and the Community
Development Society, of which he is a Past
President and current member of the
Editorial Board of the Community Development
Journal.
Dr.
Lopes has served as a Public Service Associate in
the Regional and Community Development Division of
the University
of Georgia’s
Carl Vinson Institute of Government.
There he was engaged in a full array of services
including collaborative decision conferences, workshops
and issue forums. His
clients included diverse communities, governments
and organizations. He
was also a member of the Institute’s Board of Editors
for its policy related publications and a reviewer
for the State and Local Government
Review, (a journal of state, local, and intergovernmental
issues) and the Journal of Higher
Education Outreach and Engagement.
Dr.
Lopes received his PhD. in Public Policy from the
Center for Public Administration and Policy at Virginia
Polytechnic Institute and
State
University
in Blacksburg,
Virginia. He
also holds an MBA from the
University
of Dallas
in Irving,
Texas
and an AB from Loyola
University
in Chicago,
Illinois. Dr.
Lopes is certified as a Coach by the Coach Training
Institute of San Rafael, CA. He is also a Registered
Mediator in the State of
Georgia.

Stephen C.
Carlson, DBA is a Senior
Associate of
Strategic Management
Associates, Inc.
Dr. Carlson brings thirty years
experience as a senior executive in the
software industry addressing the needs of
Global 1000 companies in areas of finance,
manufacturing, distribution and retailing to
provide strategic management and marketing
strategy consulting services to firms
engaged in business-to-business marketing to
Global 1000 companies. Current clients include Gemmar
Systems International (Montreal,
Quebec) and Jonova,
Inc. (Seattle,
WA). Dr. Carlson's consulting services to
senior management and boards of directors
include workshops for crafting and refining
corporate vision & mission statements,
strategy choices and formulation, as well as
control - feedback mechanisms such as Kaplan
& Norton's balanced scorecard.
A recent project for Sales Management
Solutions (UK) resulted in changes to
reposition the firm, hone the product
offering, and revamp the firm's
distribution process to enable the owners to
sell the firm at a premium.
Dr. Carlson has
consulted with consumer goods manufacturers
and retailers focused on improved bottom
line performance. Customers have included
major retailers such as Starbucks, Eddie
Bauer, and Autozone and consumer goods
manufacturers such as Coca-Cola,
GTE-Sylvania, Wrangler, Sara Lee Intimates,
and Fruit of the Loom. Many of these
customers were using store level POS data to
provide VMI / QR services to WalMart,
K-Mart, and Target.
Dr. Carlson
served as Vice President at both American
Software (ASI), a NASDAQ listed company and
Gemmar Systems International (GSI), a
Montreal
based firm, and as a senior director at Neil
Thall Associates/Retek (NTA), a NASDAQ
listed company recently acquired by Oracle,
where he established a track record of
building organizations and customer
relationships. Each
business provided packaged software systems
in supply chain management and retail
planning and operations.
As VP of
Development for mid-range products at ASI,
he managed large-scale development projects
in finance, order management / customer
service, forecasting and planning,
manufacturing, and distribution using state
of the art technologies. He served on IBM’s
AS/400 Independent Software Vendor (ISV)
Advisory Board for six years (1988-1993). As VP of Marketing for ASI's
mid-range products, he managed marketing and
sales support group of 30 senior specialists
and consultants in financial, manufacturing,
and distribution software known as
Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems.
At Management
Science America (MSA), a NASDAQ listed
company acquired by Dun & Bradstreet Inc.,
he served as Director of Product Planning
and Research which provided research and
staff services to an aggressive acquisitions
program including acquisition of Peachtree
Software six months prior to the launch of
the IBM PC.
Dr. Carlson is a Senior
Fellow in the Walker School of Business of
Piedmont
College
and an Adjunct Professor in the
Shorter
College,
School
of
Business
where he teaches the MBA capstone strategic
management course. He is also a frequent speaker in both
industry and academic conferences. Examples
include the International Business and
Economic Research Conference (Las Vegas,
NV), International Conference on Advances in
Management (Orlando, FL), CPG Demand
Forecasting Conferences of the Institute of
Institutional Research (various locations),
and Retail Systems / VICS Conference
(Chicago, IL).

Daniel
Hope III, Ed.D., CLP is an
Associate of
Strategic Management
Associates, Inc. He has over
30 years of experience in the fields of
recreation, parks, and leisure services at
the local, state, and national levels.
He is certified and licensed as an
administrator in the field of professional
recreation by the Georgia Board of
Recreation Examiners, registered as a
professional by the South Carolina
Recreation and Park Society, and designated
as a Certified Leisure Professional (CLP) by
the National Recreation and Park
Association. Dr. Hope consults with state
and local governments, regional, and
non-governmental organizations in the areas
of parks, recreation, cultural arts, and
leisure services. He
directs the annual Executive Development
Program for Recreation and Park
Professionals, a nationally recognized
school now in its 31st year.
Dr. Hope has
served as the Director of both Leisure
Services and Parks in
Charleston, S.C. He is been a Senior Public Service
Associate with the Carl Vinson Institute of
the University of Georgia and holds
appointments as adjunct professor in the
University of Georgia’s Department of
Recreation and Leisure Studies and the
College of Environment & Design where he
teaches courses in community awareness and
recreation design.
Dr. Hope has
served as a member of the Board of Trustees
of the Georgia Recreation and Park
Association, and in a variety of offices in
that organization. He has received numerous awards for his
work. Two
significant awards were the "Mr. Chairman"
award for his committee work with the
American Park
and Recreation Society, of the National
Recreation and Park Association and most
recently the Alex B. Little Award for his
contributions to the environment and the
greater Athens-Clarke,
GA Community.

Hope holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Zoology
from the University
of Maryland,
and Master and Doctor of Education degrees in Recreation
and Leisure Studies from the
University of Georgia.

Mr. Hans
Neuhauser is an Associate
with
Strategic Management Associates, Inc.
He is also the Executive Director
of the Georgia Environmental Policy
Institute, a private non-profit organization
dedicated to the development of proactive
strategies and policies for a healthy
environment. Through the Georgia Land Trust
Service Center, a special initiative of the Georgia Environmental Policy
Institute, Mr. Neuhauser works to increase
the effectiveness of land trusts through
programs of networking, training, public
education, public policy formulation,
advocacy, strategic planning, board
development and funding for conservation of
streams and wetlands. The Center also
advises private landowners with respect to
land conservation. While the focus of the
Center’s work is in
Georgia,
its services are delivered both in the
southeast and nationally. His clients include federal, state
and local agencies and non-profit
organizations. In
1982, the Georgia Wildlife Federation gave
him their “Conservationist of the Year”
award. In 1991 and 1992,
Georgia Trend magazine recognized him as
one of the 100 most influential people in
Georgia.
Mr. Neuhauser is
also the immediate past president of the
Georgia Environmental Council, a network of
some 60 environmental organizations in
Georgia. He
is the treasurer of the Oconee River Land
Trust and a member of the Land Trust
Alliance’s National Land Trust Council. He
has served on the board of the national Land
Trust Alliance, including two terms as
chairman. He has
directed the Coastal Office of The Georgia
Conservancy for more than 20 years and has
served on the faculty of the
Institute of
Community and
Area Development at the
University of
Georgia.
Mr.
Neuhauser holds a bachelor’s degree in biology from
Middlebury
College
(Vermont)
and a master’s in zoology from The University of Georgia. He
has published over 20 scientific papers, most on the
systematics and ecology of old and new world mammals.
